About Our Farm
The farm is approximately 600 acres (243ha) and is located 13km west of Hawkesdale in a reliable 700mm rainfall belt on clay loam soils. The pasture is predominately perennial ryegrass and clover based, with small areas of Lucerne and plantain established in the past few years.
Sale rams are grown out on pastures with minimal grain supplementing through the summer months.
About Our Stud
The stud is run in conjunction with a self replacing composite ewe flock of approximately 1000 ewes, with home grown Romney rams becoming the replacement sire of choice over the past few years.
By running the stud under the same conditions as our commercial flock, we can ensure that our rams will perform on not only our property but more importantly our clients.
The stud has grown to be one of the largest in Australia, originating from the purchase of top stud ewes from Roseview in 2003. Since then the stud has seen continual growth with additional ewes purchased and bred from carefully selected sires now comprising of 400 purebred mature aged ewes.
We have also been breeding a line which is a mix of the best Southdown and White Suffolk genetics to provide our clients with another composite option to incorporate into their prime lamb operation.
We believe in using all the available information and performance recording data we can to enhance our own visual assessments, to fast track not only our genetic gain, but that of our clients.
It is of the upmost importance to us that our rams are structurally sound, objectively measured and subjected to commercial conditions prior to leaving our farm. By doing this, we are confident that our rams will not only perform this year, but for many years to come.
